“For Adriana”, Volume 2, Issue #1

Tell us a little about yourself
I teach middle school English and live with my potcake, Guinness, near Gloucester, MA. I’ve taught in Providence, Worcester, Lowell, Seoul, and now Salisbury, where I’ve been for seven years. Other than writing, I’m passionate about labor and workers’ rights. I’m a building rep for my local union, a summer organizer for the Massachusetts Teachers Association, and will complete my collective bargaining certificate this summer at UMass. Through previous jobs, I’ve also been a member of the United Auto Workers and Rural Letter Carriers Association. I hope to finish my second collection of poems by the end of the year.
Tell us a bit about the piece you previously published with the mill pages
I used to write flowery poems — this one was for someone I studied with at Wheaton College. It changed quite a bit (including the title) from the Mill Pages version to the one in my book Sanctuaries of the Beer Years. I prefer to write shorter poems now.
